  • Man Faces Kidnapping Charges in San Fernando Superior Court

    David Taft, 21, fromLancaster, was suspected of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and her friend, both 21 at knife-point in Canyon Country.

    Physical force was allegedly used and Taft allegedly forced both girls into his car on Wednesday May 9, 2012 and drove to Lakewood where he assault his ex girlfriend for several hours and hit, slapped, and choked her, threatening to kill her.

    When they stopped to use the restroom, the victims refused to get back into the car so Taft took off.

    Taft drove nearly 250 miles, crossing county lines at least three times, before turning himself in toLos Angelespolice the next day.

    He was taken to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and is being held on $100,000 bail.

    Taft is scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court May 14 to face kidnapping charges.

  • Woman Arrested For Alleged DUI Injuring 6 Year Old Step Daughter

    Rachelle N. Guttridge, 20 was arrested on suspicion of DUI Thursday April 26, 2012 after an accident in which her 6-year-old stepdaughter was injured.

    Guttridge was allegedly driving at about 45 mph and swerved and ended up in a ditch.

    The vehicle rolled over a fence and into a grass field, where it landed on its wheels.

    She was booked on felony DUI and endangerment charges as well as making terrorist threats and vandalism for kicking out the window of the patrol car and threatened the officers.

    She is being held on a $178,000 bail.

  • Man Arrested For Attempted Murder

    Raymundo Soto, 35, has been arrested for trying to stab a man on February 29th.

    Soto was arrested Wednesday on a Ramey warrant, an arrest warrant issued prior to the court filing of a criminal case against a specific defendant.

    Soto was scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court on Friday April 6, 2012 to face charges of attempted murder.

    He is being held at theLos AngelesCountyInmateReceptionCenteron $500,000 bail.

  • Three Alleged Gang Members Arrested For Burlgary, Kidnap, Rape

    Quintin Moreland and Dwayne Seymore, both 23, are charged with one count each of first-degree residential burglary and receiving stolen property.

    Ryeheem Evans Johnson, 19, is charged separately with one count each of first-degree residential burglary and first-degree burglary with a person present.

    The crimes are alleged to be for the benefit of a gang.

    Moreland and Seymore were on probation in another burglary case, and Moreland was wanted on a felony warrant charging him with a 2010 kidnapping and rape.

    Moreland, Seymore and Johnson each pled not guilty on Thursday April 5, 2012 in Van Nuys Superior Court.

    They are due back April 16 for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require them to stand trial.

  • Man Fatally Shot After Alleged Shooting and Robbery

    Garmik Kirakosian, 30, has been identified by authorities as being connected to a shooting that occurred on Wednesday March 21, 2012.

    Kirakosian allegedly shot a tobacco store employee during a robbery and fled in a carjacked Mercedes-Benz to Sun Valley, where he was shot in a confrontation withLos Angelespolice. He died at the scene.

    The store employee was shot in the leg and remains in stable condition.

    The robbery and shooting at the tobacco shop occurred about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday outside the business in the 8700 block ofGlenoaks Boulevard.

    The suspect then carjacked a Mercedes-Benz and, with the woman driver still inside, crashed the vehicle a short distance away, jumped out and took off on foot.

    He was then shot by the police and a handgun was found next to his body.

    Had this man lived to see his arrest he would have been charged with armed robbery and other possible charges dealing with assault with deadly weapon and would be scheduled to appear in the San Fernando Courthouse.

  • Man Convicted of Nine Felony Counts of Sex Related Crimes

    Eugene Lee Upshaw, 47, was found guilty by a jury Thursday in San Fernando Superior Court on nine felony counts of sex related crimes including sexual assault, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, rape by force and sodomy.

    He is scheduled to appear back in court Monday to face further proceedings related to sentencing.

    Detectives had been searching for Upshaw since DNA evidence identified him short after the crime in which Upshaw raped a Castaic woman on August 20, 2009.

    Upshaw asked a woman for a ride, bought her a bottle of alcohol at a liquor store, and then drove her to a remote dirt road in Castaic, where he assaulted and raped her.

    He was also arrested inGallup,N.M., for sex crimes in 1991 and 1994.

  • Gang Members Charged With First Degree Murder

    Anthony John Legaspi, 18, Adrian Powers, 18, and John David Salazar, 22, were charged with first degree murder Monday March 5, 2012 in connection with a shooting that occurred January 5, 2011 in Redlands that left Quinn McCaleb, 17, and Andrew Jackson, 16 dead and two others seriously injured.

    A fourth gang member, Jose Lara, 28, was charged with being an accessory after the fact to the shooting. He was being held on a $2.5 million bail.

    All four suspects were described as being part of a street gang.

  • Jerry Moon Faces 17 Felony Charges in San Fernando Superior Court

    Jerry Moon, 18, from Stevenson Ranch, will enter a plea in court next month to the charges outlined in a 13-page felony complaint against him.

    Moon was held on $16 million bail after his arraignment began Tuesday on rape, attempted murder and 15 other charges in San Fernando Superior Court.

    The charges include: one count of first degree burglary; two counts of attempted murder; six counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object; one count of first degree residential robbery; three counts of forcible rape; three counts forcible oral copulation; and one count of false imprisonment by violence.

    The case against Moon began when deputies responded to a residential robbery on January 8, 2012 and then learned that a female had been sexually assaulted. DNA evidence among other evidence connected Moon to the crimes.

    Moon is potentially facing life in state prison.

  • 3 Alleged Gang Members Arrested and Charged

    A pursuit of gang members has resulted in 3 gang member arrests in the Harbor area.

    Bruno Pineda, 20, a reputed Rancho San Pedro street gang member, faces one count of receiving stolen property and 10 counts of forgery.

    Pineda allegedly deposited 10 checks he received from his sister into an account at his bank in July totaling $1,615. The checks were stolen from a storage area burglarized earlier that month.

    Wendy Lizeth Nunez, an alleged member of Westside Wilmas gang, has been charged with one count of making criminal threats and one count of petty theft.

    Andre Jeremiah Merced, 18, of San Pedro was charged with four counts of burglary from a motor vehicle, two counts of tampering with a vehicle and one count of vandalism.
    Pineda, Nunez and Merced all face additional gang allegations and are all scheduled for arraignment Febuary 22, 2012.

  • Lakers Star Kobe Bryant Will Not Be Charged With Assault

    Back in August of 2011 Kobe Bryant was accused of assaulting a man during Sunday church service.

    The alleged victim, Thomas Hagos, 20, claimed that Bryant aggressively pulled on his arm because Bryant thought Hagos took his picture.

    No charges will be filed against Lakers star Kobe Bryant over an alleged incident in August at a church in San Diego, the city attorney’s office announced Tuesday.

    Hagos later went to the hospital with a minor wrist sprain.

    The City Attorney’s office announced on Tuesday February 7, 2012 that no charges will be filed against Bryant. The prosecutors stated that it would ethically wrong to file charges as there is no sufficient evidence the prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

    Additionally, after the incident, Bryant denied that he hurt the young man.

  • 15 Year Old Arrested For Alleged Murder of Parents

    A 15-year-old boy from Oakland, California was arrested after admitting to killing his parents and hiding their bodies in the family car.

    The minor was arrested Saturday January 28, 2012 on suspicion of killing Robert Kamin, 54, and Susan Poff, 50, whose bodies were found hidden beneath blankets in the car parked outside the family home.

    Police had gone to the house when co-workers reported that they had not shown up to work but left when nothing appeared suspicious.

    Following another call to the police, an officer went back to the home and observed a body part sticking out from underneath the blanket in the car.

    The motive to why the couple was killed and how the couple was killed has not been released or yet discovered.

    Situations like this where premeditated murder is involved a minor may be tried as an adult and face 25 years to life in prison.

  • Fresno Mom Who Kills Three and Herself Was High on Meth

    Aide Mendez, a 23 year old Fresno mother, shot four family members and killed herself on January 15, 2012.

    Further investigation revealed that Mendez had more than eight times the amount of methamphetamine in her system.

    People with more than 300 nanograms per milliliter of the drug in their systems tend to be at risk for bizarre behavior.

    Toxicology reports showed that Mendez had 2,500 nanograms per milliliter in her system when she began shooting.

    Mendez killed her 3-year-old son, her 17-month-old daughter, and her boyfriend’s cousin. The boyfriend also was shot and stabbed but survived.

    Police said Mendez took video of herself on an iPad smoking meth hours before the killings.

    Methamphetamine is an illegal controlled substance and possession in any amount is illegal and has severe penalties. Drug crimes are very serious and can result in long term imprisonment.

  • 2 Arrested For 17 Year Old Soccer Player's Murder

    Francisco Javier Rodriguez Jr., 17, was getting home from a soccer game on the night of January 11, 2012.
    A woman knocked on his door and asked him to come outside. Rodriguez said to his family he is stepping out and as soon as he said that and stepped out he was shot by a man waiting in a SUV.

    Detectives do not believe the shooting was gang related but do believe it was related to some romantic rivalry. Rodriguez may have been involved with a woman with a jealous male friend.

    Due to an informant’s tip, a 15 member LAPD task force arrested Elizabeth Ibarra, 19, of the San Fernando Valley and Jason Shumann, 24, of Calabasas after tracking down a green Ford Explorer witnesses saw fleeing the scene of the crime. Both suspects have extensive criminal records.

    There will be further investigations conducted.

    Ibarra and Shumann potentially face 25 years to life in prison if convicted of first degree murder. First degree murder, which is murder that is premeditated and deliberated, is the most serious crime a person can face.

  • Man Gets Sentenced to 85 Years to Life For 1991 Murder

    Rodolfo Gallegos, a gang member extradited from Mexico was sentenced on January 12, 2012 killing a teenage boy and wounding two other people in Panorama City on the night of August 21, 1991.

    Gallegos was arrested when he was 16 years old but was tried as an adult for the murder of Kenneth Caldera and attempted murders of four other teens.

    The shooting occurred at Roscoe Boulevard and Willis Avenue as the teenager and some friends were driving home from a party.

    Gallegos pulled alongside them and the group where they were from thinking they were part of a rival gang. Gallegos then pulled out a gun and fired nine times at the car.

    Gallegos was sentenced to 85 years to life in state prison.

  • Man Admits to Hit and Run That Caused Death of Bicyclist

    Adam Carl Garrett, 19, admitted to crashing his car into a bike ridden by Hung Khac Do, 25, and fleeing without reporting the accident that resulted in Do’s death.

    The accident occurred back in May of 2011 when Garret was driving toward Huntington Beach when his car collided Do on his bicycle.

    Garret fled the scene. A limousine driver found Do lying in the road.

    Do was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead 40 minutes later.

    Garret did call the police after the accident but lied about his involvement. The police went to his house and discovered his dented Toyota Camry.

    Garrett was convicted of a felony count of hit-and-run causing death and a misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter without negligence.

    He was sentenced to 180 days in jail, was ordered to perform 200 hours of community service, pay $14,000 in restitution to Do’s family and serve three years of probation.

  • Alleged Gang Related Crimes Leaves Man Shot and Killed

    An alleged gang related slaying left a man shot and killed on the evening Thursday December 29, 2011 in Lawndale, California.

    The victim was walking along the side walk with a woman when the shooter drove alongside then in a sports car. The driver got out of the car, confronted the man, and fired shots at the man.

    The man then got back in the vehicle and fled.
    The victim was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. The woman was unharmed.
    No one has been arrested.

  • Home Invasion Robbery in Sherman Oaks, California

    A Sherman Oaks, California home was robbed on Tuesday December 20, 2011 by two men who posed as deliverymen.

    When the men knocked on the door an elderly man answered and one of the men struck the victim in the head with what the victim believed to be a gun.
    The men tied up the victim with zip ties and the victim’s wife locked herself in the bathroom.

    The robbers took some money and jewelry and were out of the house within a few minutes.

    Police are still in pursuit of the robbers and have not released any more information.

  • $500,000 Embezzlement Results in 3 Years and 4 Months in Prison

    Mandy Deborah Borquez, 33, a former Antelope Valley College accounting assistant, pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $500,000 from the school on Wednesday December 14, 2011.

    She pleaded guilty to two counts of grand theft by embezzlement and admitted taking more than $150,000. The embezzlement took place roughly between 2004 and 2010 and was exposed by her supervisor.

    Borquez was sentenced to 3 years and 4 months to state prison. She was also ordered to pay restitution of $423,340.90.
    Four counts were dismissed as part of a negotiated settlement

  • Van Nuys Man Arrested on Suspicion for Hit and Run Murder

    Alfonso Garnica-Mozgueda, 33 is facing a hit and run murder charge after crashing into two women standing at the side of a road in Van Nuys and fleeing the scene.

    Mozgueda apparently lost control of his car and crashed into Christina Lynn Ruvalcaba, 39, who suffered major injuries and died at the hospital shortly after the crash and her sister, 34-year-old Blanca Ruvalcaba, who was thrown several feet and was hospitalized with moderate injuries.

    Mozgueda left his car and ran away on foot. The police later arrested him at his home.

    He is being held in Van Nuys Jail on a $1.1 million bail for suspicion of murder and two outstanding warrants.

  • Man Faces 16 Years in Prison For Second Degree Murder of Hollywood Director

    Jose Fructuoso, 27, was convicted of second-degree murder for the stabbing death of Bennett Bradley, 59, an east Hollywood theater director on November 23, 2011.

    After 1 ½ days of deliberation, the jury found Fructuoso guilty of second degree murder.
    The 59-year-old victim was found dead Jan. 2, 2010, in his Mid-Wilshire apartment after being stabbed repeatedly; a bloody knife was found in the apartment.

    Fructuoso and Bradley were acquaintances. Fructuoso was linked to the murder through evidence that was found by the police and police said that he confessed to the crime.

    Fructuoso is facing 16 years to life in prison. He is to be sentenced January 3, 2012.

  • Man Faces 250 Criminal Counts

    Sergio Nicolas Lopez, 31, has been accused of crimes that all across the region from Temecula to the Coachella Valley. The Riverside District Attorney’s office stated on Thursday October 20, 2011 that it plans to file 250 criminal counts against Lopez.

    Lopez is accused of committing 78 robberies from October 2010 to April 2011 at businesses throughout the county.
    Lopez targeted shoe and clothing stores, hair salons, barber shops, delis and yogurt shops, the statement said. More than a dozen of the alleged crimes occurred in Hemet.

    Lopez already faces a single count of robbery, which occurred at Anna’s Linens in Indio. Lopez allegedly escaped capture after a police chase. He also allegedly carjacked a vehicle in Cathedral City on May 4, 2011 after two other unsuccessful attempts.
